ARE YOU AS FOCUSED AS YOU THINK? YOUR EYES MIGHT TELL A DIFFERENT STORY

A team of researchers from St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with Viewpointsystem set out to answer a deceptively simple question: Can we accurately judge our own level of focus, or do our eyes offer a more accurate measure through eye tracking technology? The result? People’s self-assessments did not always match reality, but their eyes did.

WHAT OUR EYES REVEAL ABOUT ATTENTION AND STRESS

The eye is a unique window into our inner state. Its direct connection to the brain offers extraordinary possibilities to understand our behavior and cognitive performance. Eye-tracking technologies, combined with modern analytical methods, open up entirely new perspectives on improving safety in areas such as mobility & transportation, manufacturing and emergency services.

UNSEEN RISKS: HOW EYE TRACKING SHEDS LIGHT ON SCHOOL ROUTE DANGERS

Every day, thousands of children make their way to school, often navigating busy streets and intersections. But how well do they really understand the risks? Last year, nearly 500 children in Austria were injured in traffic accidents on their way to school. To identify and understand the challenges, the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle, and Touring Club (ÖAMTC) conducted a study using our smart glasses with eye tracking technology. The research provides insights into how younger children (6-7 years old) and older children (11-12 years old) perceive and react to potential traffic hazards, ultimately aiming to improve traffic safety measures.

LEARNING TO DRIVE MEANS LEARNING TO SEE: GAZE ANALYSIS OF DRIVING BEHAVIOR

In the fast-paced world of traffic, experience and youth often find themselves at odds. But what if we could take a peek behind the wheel, revealing insights into driving behavior that go beyond any traffic regulation? That’s precisely what the ORF Dok 1 team, equipped with our Smart Glasses, was able to do when they challenged 59-year-old journalist Hanno Settele and 21-year-old Digital Creator Safiye to an unusual competition.

TINY LENSES, BIG IMPACT

Micro-optics are fundamental components in camera systems for smart devices, mobility applications, or medical products. We speak with Nils Fahrbach, CEO of Printoptix, and Frank Linsenmaier, CTO of Viewpointsystem, about the ambitious project “3DPrintoptixMarket“: Using a novel 3D printing process, high-end micro-optics are manufactured in a single step. Used in Viewpointsystem’s smart glasses, they should enable individual product customization.

REVOLUTIONARY COMPUTING POWER: NEUROMORPHIC CHIPS AND THEIR BENEFITS FOR THE INDUSTRY

We demand more and more computing power from our devices, but conventional computing architectures are increasingly reaching their physical limits. In their search for new ways to continue scaling up processing, researchers and chip designers are taking inspiration from the way the brain processes information. This is also happening in the EU-funded research project “NimbleAI”: Viewpointsystem and 18 partners are developing a neuromorphic ‘super-chip’ that will be extremely powerful while consuming very little energy.

MA33 – WIEN LEUCHTET: GREEN LIGHT FOR “GREEN CARPET”

The mobile app, by its name “Green Carpet”, is designed to act as a digital traffic light assistant and indicate the driver at what permissible speed green light is reached and how many seconds the traffic light is on red.
