VPS Connect Privacy POLICy

This privacy policy applies to the VPS Connect mobile application for Android and iOS, developed by Viewpointsystem GmbH.

About the app: VPS Connect is a companion application for VPS Lite Unit hardware. It enables users to discover a paired Lite Unit via Bluetooth, configure its Wi-Fi network, and act as the “expert” endpoint in a real-time audio/video streaming session with a Lite Unit wearer.

Data processed by the app:

  • Bluetooth scan results – device identifiers and signal strength of nearby Lite Units, used only to display and connect. Not transmitted to Viewpointsystem servers or third parties.
  • Wi-Fi SSID and password – entered by the user to configure a Lite Unit, transmitted only from the phone to the Lite Unit via Bluetooth Low Energy. Not persisted, not transmitted elsewhere.
  • Location permission – required by Android for Bluetooth scanning on versions prior to 12. Coordinates are never read or transmitted.
  • Camera and microphone (during streaming sessions only) – accessed via WebRTC to transmit audio/video to the paired Lite Unit, end-to-end encrypted with DTLS-SRTP. Streams flow peer-to-peer where possible, or via an encrypted TURN relay operated by Xirsys (Frankfurt for EU) when direct connection is blocked; the TURN relay cannot decrypt the content. Session setup metadata (SDP) transits a Viewpointsystem signaling server over HTTPS/WSS and is not stored. Media never passes through Viewpointsystem servers. Recordings, if made, are stored only on the Lite Unit.
  • Cached Lite Unit identifier – stored locally on the device for faster reconnection.

Third-party service providers: Xirsys provides STUN/TURN infrastructure for WebRTC. Xirsys cannot decrypt relayed media.

Not collected: The app uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. No user account or login is required.

Data sharing: No app-processed data is transferred to third parties for their own use.

Retention: All app data is transient (in-memory) or cached locally on the device. Uninstalling the app removes local data.
