DIGITAL IRIS INSIDE, THE NEW MODULE SERIES FROM VIEWPOINTSYSTEM, WAS HONORED AS ONE OF THE TOP PRODUCTS IN THE “VIRTUAL & AUGMENTED REALITY” AWARD CATEGORY
Vienna, Nov. 11, 2021 – For the third time since 2017, Viewpointsystem has been named a CES 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree. This time, the Vienna-based deep-tech company received the award for the eye sensor module ESM 22 of the new Digital Iris Inside series. The all-in-one eye sensor module was honored in the “Virtual & Augmented Reality” category for outstanding engineering and design. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2022, the world’s most influential technology event, happening Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas. This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record high number of over 1800 submissions.
With the Digital Iris Inside all-in-one modules, integrating eye tracking into XR devices becomes very easy. The first product in this series, the eye sensor module ESM 22 (to be released in March 2022), is designed as a snap-in nose pad that can be integrated almost invisibly into existing augmented/mixed reality glasses or other smart glasses. The module is pre-configured, calibrated and ready to use. Its design as a nose pad guarantees a comfortable fit of the glasses.
“Eye tracking is a key technology for the success of augmented and mixed reality and has the potential to revolutionize human-machine interaction. With standardized eye tracking modules, we want to help accelerate development and make the technology truly consumer- and mainstream-ready,” says Nils Berger, CEO and Founder of Viewpointsystem. “We are very honored to bring home this prestigious award for the third time now, following the successes with our VPS 16 and VPS 19 eye tracking smart glasses.”
The applications of eye tracking and eye data in extended reality technologies are versatile, from foveated rendering in VR to iris recognition and hands-free operation of smart glasses using so-called eye gestures. Furthermore, eye tracking data provide access to the most intuitive human-machine interface, giving the wearable device information about how the wearer feels in a given situation and what they are interested in.
The ESM 22 eye sensor module, including product description and photos, can be found at CES.tech/innovation. More will be revealed in January 2022 when the product will be presented in the Innovation Awards Showcase at CES 2022.
