How eye tracking glasses can significantly improve practical training became apparent during a Bridge Simulator Training Course with Swedish MariTerm AB. The consulting company, which specializes in the field of safe and qualitative transports, recently tested the VPS 19 during practical training at the bridge simulator. On behalf of Wisby Tankers, operator of 12 chemical tankers, MariTerm conducted practical parts of the Bridge Resource Management (BRM) training at the simulator.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTargeted training of the bridge team is especially important when particularly high safety standards are required, for example when transporting dangerous goods or in passenger transportation,\u201d explains BRM instructor H\u00e5kan Admarker, a uniquely experienced captain with an extensive background as a cruise captain with the Royal Caribbean Group, among others. \u201cThe eye tracking smart glasses are a very helpful training tool, because they make distraction and mistakes of the trainee immediately apparent. We are all humans, and we all can make mistakes. However, if caught in time and being analyzed, mistakes help us to learn a lesson,\u201d he says.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The VPS 19 stream the trainee’s field of vision live to the instructor’s screen and indicate the visual focus of the trainee. This allows the instructor to see exactly whether the trainee is overlooking sources of danger or whether they focus on the wrong areas, and to provide immediate feedback. The training can also be recorded and evaluated in more detail, or the recording can be given to the trainee for further learning. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roger Hansson, sales consultant for the maritime industry segment in the Nordics region and a long-time industry expert, was also able to demonstrate the uncomplicated handling of the VPS 19 for MariTerm. \u201cThe system is very easy to operate, even for the inexperienced,\u201d Hansson explains. \u201cAnother advantage is the high level of wearing comfort. The glasses are extremely light and do not interfere when performing the work steps.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The VPS 19 now offers the possibility to conduct even more qualified training, even at a distance, and to maximize the safety level.<\/span><\/p>\n
